The UAE has signed a strategic partnership with the United States to invest $100 billion in producing 100 gigawatts of clean energy by 2035, according to the official Emirates News Agency (WAM).
The partnership affirms the two countries' commitment to "enhancing energy security and advancing progress in climate action," and comes within the framework of the "close friendship" between Washington and Abu Dhabi, according to WAM.
The agency revealed the four pillars of this partnership, which included: "developing clean energy projects and financing solutions, spreading advanced technology, strengthening supply chains... managing carbon and methane emissions... and advanced nuclear energy technologies such as small modular reactors... and reducing emissions in the industrial and transportation sectors," according to the agency.
The President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, attended the signing of the partnership, which was signed on the Emirati side by the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Special Envoy for Climate Change, Sultan Al-Jaber, and the Special Envoy of the US President, Amos Hochstein.
Commenting on the signing of the strategic partnership, Al-Jaber said: "In line with the vision of the wise leadership to unify and join efforts to enhance global energy security... we are pleased to conclude this partnership, which is a fundamental possibility to achieve this goal, advance climate action efforts, and provide sustainable energy supplies at reasonable prices in each country. The Emirates, the United States of America and various parts of the world, with a focus on developing countries," according to Wam.
For his part, Hochstein said: "The close strategic alliance between the UAE and the United States will contribute to supporting the transition process in the global energy sector and building a more sustainable future.
